I'm closing on this 5 acre home next week and need something input on best practices for maintaining and improving the yard and land around it.
There are very large patches of black berry bushes on this property (blocking access to the forest on the left) and realize removing the infestation will be the single biggest job. Any tips for making this large job go smoothly? What do I do with the large quantity of bushes cut down. My SO tells me anyone with this much land has a permanent brush pile. That idea doesn't appeal to me.
Can I get away with a nicely built riding mower or should I just bite the bullet and go with a subcompact tractor (w/loader and large mowing deck). Don't mind spending the money as long as it proves to be useful.
There are a large variety of trees on this property. Including some that have half fallen over but are still alive. Would it be a good idea to have a arborist come out and assess things?
What would you do to a property like this? Pavilion? Walking trails? Bird sanctuary? Large garden?
I've never owned this much land before and appreciate any input.
